Discipline aims at the action. Shame aims at the child. One says you did a bad thing, the other says you are a bad thing, and a boy who hears the second one enough will spend his life trying to prove it either wrong or true.

Correct a child today in a way that leaves their dignity fully intact, firm on the deed and gentle on the person.

When you discipline, does your child hear that they did wrong, or that they are wrong?
